Tender Loving Care for Your Immune System
Returning to school after the winter break means returning to tightly shared spaces. Educators are hooked on hand sanitizer this time of year - but to me, this is missing the point. We spend so much time, energy, and worry on preventing germs from entering our body - but give almost no thought to how we defend ourselves from the foreign invasion on the inside. A large percentage of my daily diet is specifically targeted at my immune system. I have four go to foods/beverages that I consume almost daily.
1. Berries - brightly colored means high in anti-oxidants. I have berries every morning - see my smoothie blog https://compassionate-changes.blogspot.com/2020/01/every-day-starts-this-way.html
If I'm feeling particularly under attack, I will supplement with Elderberry Syrup. A shot in the morning.
2. Green Tea - Easy peasy, just add hot water and a bit of honey.
3. Mushrooms - Mushrooms are like magic. I heard David Wolfe, a renowned raw foods specialist, say that Chaga mushroom is the strongest immune support food on earth. I like David a lot - I have zero science to back this up, but I'm sure he does if you need that.
4. Dark Chocolate and/or Cacao. What is the difference? I've never really figured that out but I do know that they are both loaded with anti-oxidants. You want the dark chocolate to be at least 75% to avoid the added junk. I like it best in drinkable form. I add coconut milk for extra nutrition and it cuts down the bitterness. And... it just feels like a decadent treat!
I LOVE the Four Sigmatic brand. They mix the mushrooms in the chocolate - how amazing is that? They also sell mushroom elixers and mushroom coffee powders. Again, a brilliant and easy way to get your shrooms.
If you have a favorite immune boosting food or drink, please share it in the comments. We will build a community of immunity warriors.
