Every day starts this way

This is how I "break my fast" nearly every day.  I've been doing this for many years so I've tried tons of different variations and recipes and by now - I have it down, exactly the way I like it, very little variation from day to day.   Here is my go to recipe.  For a smooth blend, add to the blender in this order:

1.  Nut milk - almond or cashew.  When I've had a productive weekend, I've made my own cashew milk.  This is very easy. After soaking them for about 6 -8 hrs, I put one cup of cashews and four cups of water in the blender and mix 'em up.  Put it in a bottle and it works for the next 4-5 days.  Just needs a little shake.  If I'm too busy for this nonsense - I just use store bought.

2. Spinach and/or Kale - Organic, throw it in by the fistful.
3. Frozen blueberries - Sometimes I mix it up with some cherries too, but I'm a strictly a berry person.
4. Banana
5.  Almond Butter - one to two tablespoons.  This is key!  You need the healthy fats to make this stick with you a while.  Sometimes I use a tablespoon of coconut oil too and if I'm really feeling wild and crazy, I use both!
6. Dates - you can throw one to two dates in if you need to sweeten it up.

This is simple, delicious, and easy.  You may be wondering - what about my favorite supplements?  What about the Maca?  the Spirulina?  I never mess with that stuff.  It makes it too expensive and complicated.  Some of those concoctions don't sit well with my stomach also - and since I'm not sure what exactly makes me feel sick, I avoid most of it.  But of course, if you have something that works for you - toss it in there!

  1. Love this recipe, you and your blog! I usually throw in a carrot, too, and my son calls it a "chewthy" - but with the nuts/butter it does stick with you! I love social media (and now your blog) to see the old gang - But I still miss you all!
