It's Already In There!

When Macy was in college I absolutely loved to visit her in Eugene, OR - one of the best towns in America with a first rate Saturday morning Farmers Market. I snapped this photo for obvious reasons, it's a beautiful and creative display. When I look at it, however, there is something much deeper that stirs in me. On a very primal level, as if my genes and all my human cells are yelling to me, this is food that I want to eat. This connects to the heart of health coaching. It was never about telling someone what to eat - it is about helping them tune into the deepest place inside their humanity which already knows what to eat. Just like a deer walking through the woods - knowing which plants to eat and which to pass by - humans instinctively know what foods nourish them. There is a ton of static in our world today that drowns out this instinctive knowledge. For each of us the source of this static is different. Sometimes it is blaring advertisements, sometimes deeply rooted and emotional family traditions, and sometimes it is improperly using food to fill a hole left by something else. The work of cutting through this static and being able to tune into what your body really wants to eat is hard work - but incredibly rewarding when you are able to take back control of your own body and health destiny. I feel incredibly grateful to be able to support people on this amazing journey.
